Goa to speed up Tillari water project

Goa is trying to make up the lost time in its irrigation projects. The state has shown keen interest to complete the much-awaited Tillari irrigation project, a joint project between Goa and Maharashtra.
 
Reacting to this, chief minister Pratapsingh Rane said, "We have revived the project as we want water to irrigate our land."
 
The chief minister had informed the state assembly that the project would be financed in a 75-25 ratio by Goa and Maharashtra.
 
"Considerable progress has been made on the project which is on the border of both the states on the northern side," Rane said.
 
According to reports, substantial progress has been made on the work on right bank main canal and Sanquelim branch canal.
 
The Goa government has already paid Rs 50 crore to the Maharashtra government while it owes Rs 120.71 crore as cost of the project.
 
In a written reply to the House, the chief minister had stated that from 2001 till date Rs 66.09 crore was spent on this project in the Goa region.
 
Highest expenditure was done during 2005-06 during which Rs 17.57 was were spent."
