"The three SEZs notified under Special Economic Zone Act 2005 have already been denotified by the people of Goa and the bureaucratic order is, therefore, impractical and meaningless," Naik said.

Reacting to the refusal by the Commerce Ministry to denotify the three SEZs, Naik said that he had no doubts that the state government will not leave the issue in wilderness.

A delegation led by Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat had called on Kamal Nath in New Delhi on January 3, he said, adding the Union Commerce Minister had assured the delegation that no SEZ will be thrust upon the state.

The Commerce Minister was fully sympathetic to the stand taken by the Goa government and had remarked "no SEZ can function if the state government and its people oppose it," Naik said.

"However, it appears that some officials in the ministry have not advised the honorable Minister correctly in this regard," he said.
