A three-member committee has been constituted by chief minister Tarun Gogoi to frame a comprehensive New Land Policy for the entire state.
The committee has been constituted at the directive Gogoi and will be headed by Bhumidhar Barman, advisor to the chief minister. The committee would submit recommendations to the state government on land use and sustainable land management, land resources conservation and development, identify agricultural and non-agricultural land, resettlement of land, preservation of water bodies and hills, encroachment problem within four months.
The committee comprises additional chief secretary of revenue and disaster management and former additional deputy commissioner Dongshi Barman.
Gogoi said the policy would incorporate various issues relating to land resettlement for the landless, impoverished and marginalised people and those affected by floods and erosion.
