Govt allocates Rs 1,740 crore for disadvantaged sections

The government has allocated Rs 1,740 crore to expand educational and economic opportunities for the disadvantaged section of the minorities through various schemes, Rajya Sabha was informed today.  

"The government envisages to expand educational and economic opportunities for the disadvantaged section of the minorities through a number of existing and new schemes. A plan budgetary allocation of Rs 1,740 crores have been made for this purpose," Minister of State (Independent Charge), Salman Khurshid said in reply to a question.  

In the first 100 days of the new government, the ministry has selected five programmes and schemes under which intermediate milestones have been laid down to be achieved in a time bound manner.  

 

"These schemes aim to enable the deprived section of the population, including the minority communities, to avail of better opportunities, and create an efficient Waqf administration that could generate resources for welfare of the community," Kurshid added.
