Govt allocates Rs 51,159 cr for women devt in FY10

The government today almost doubled the funds allocated for development of women under various schemes to Rs 51,159.04 crore in 2009-10.

The government's Gender Budgeting presented along with the Interim Budget in Parliament, said the budget estimate of Rs 27,661.67 crore in the current fiscal for the purpose had to be later revised to Rs 49,623.35 crore.

In the Interim Budget, several schemes have been announced by various ministries or departments, including Family Welfare Wing, Department of School Education, Department of Higher Education, Department of Rural Development and Ministry of Women and Child Development.

Under the scheme for National Championship for Women, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports would provide Rs 14,553.18 crore in the next fiscal, compared to Rs 11,459.61 crore in the current financial year. Similarly, the Department of School Education and Literacy announced funds of Rs 11,570.26 crore in the financial year 2009-10 against Rs 2,051.05 crore in fiscal 2009.

 

To promote higher education, the Department of Higher Education would provide Rs 2,379.32 crore in the next fiscal compared to Rs 1,859.20 crore in the current fiscal.

Aimed at generating maximum number of jobs in the rural areas, the Department of Rural Development has allocated Rs 10,963.30 crore in FY10, up from Rs 6,188 crore in FY09.
