The government has allocated Rs 740.33 crore for the current fiscal to various states under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Parliament was informed today.
In the previous fiscal, funds allocated under the scheme were about Rs 737.17 crore.
The PMEGP was launched in 2008-09 by merging the Rural Employment Generation Programme and Pradhan Mantri Rozgar Yojana of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
The PMEGP is an initiative to generate around 38 lakh additional jobs from 2008-09 to 2011-12 with a proposed outlay of Rs 4,735 crore, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for MSMEs Dinsha Patel said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
Replying to another question, he said 2.17 lakh applications were received in the last fiscal on availing of benefits of the scheme.
He also said that state governments have been requested to monitor the implementation of the scheme.
