In the wake of TRS and BJP announcing boycott of the January 6 meeting on Telangana, the government today said it was convened just to share the Srikrishna committee report with political parties and not to go into the issue in detail.
A top government source said the meeting was convened by Home Minister P Chidambaram to hand over the Srikrishna report, which was submitted to him on December 30.
It is also expected to finalise a mutually convenient date for a future meeting when the parties can come back and put forward their views on the report after discussing it at their respective fora.
"It will be the first meeting and no one is expecting any breakthrough there as the parties are yet to see the report. So, we have to give them time to discuss the report at their respective party level," the source said.
On TRS's allegation that by inviting two representatives from each party, the Centre was trying to seek divergent views, the source said if any party wants to send a single representative, it is welcome to do so as it was primarily convened only to hand over the report and the finalise a mutually convenient date for a future meeting on the issue.
The Centre is likely to send the report thorough courier if any party boycotts the meeting.

"In any case, the Home Ministry will upload the report in its website after the January six meeting," the source said.
The TRS yesterday decided not to attend the January six meeting in New Delhi, saying it was a "deliberate attempt" to seek divergent opinions on the issue.
Echoing similar views, the BJP also said it will not participate in the meeting.
