Govt Considers Lowering Naphtha Prices

In a move that could significantly affect the viability of Dabhol Power Company (DPC) and other combined cycle power plants, the power ministry is considering a proposal to waive the 16 per cent excise duty on naphtha and to equate the fuel price to export parity prices. Both the measures are likely to bring down the generation cost of combined cycle power plants, like the 740 mw phase-I of DPC, by around 70 paise per unit.
