Govt dental college gets digital library

As part of the golden jubilee celebrations, the alumni of Government Dental College-Bangalore have extended Rs 24 lakh support to the college to set up digital library. 

Also the old students have contributed Rs one crore for renovation and to upgrade class rooms with audio-video aids. 

According to Dr S Jagadish, an old student, professor and head, conservative dentistry, R V Dental College and Hospital, said, “The recently opened digital library provides access to more information. Computers have been installed with internet facilities in all the departments. To enable students, the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Helinet (Health Science Library and Information Network) subscription with all the science/dental journals published globally are made available under one roof”. 

The Government Dental College-Bangalore which started in small way in 1958 in Victoria Hospital, now housed adjacent to Tippu Sultan’s Fort will celebrate its Golden Jubilee from Friday. As part of the celebrations, a three-day scientific conference has been organised. 

The dental college, which was regarded as one of the best institutions in South-East Asia by the World Health Organisation (WHO), has been catering to both urban and rural patients. So far about 3,000 students have graduated. Dr S S Hiremath, dean-cum-director of the college, said, “The alumni have extended support to develop infrastructure at the college. The development of infrastructure in the form of upgradation of classrooms with audio video aids, renovation of the canteen and renovation of the auditorium with acoustics.” 

“The college on its part, raising to the needs of Bangalore Central Jail, has set up a dental clinic in the premises with two chairs to take care of the oral health needs of prisoners, he added.
