The Karnataka government today directed the Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) to vacate the existing race course by this year end and said no more extension will be entertained.

“It has been clearly communicated to BTC management today that they have to shift the race course by December 31, 2009,” chief minister B S Yeddyurappa said after a meeting with BTC management here. The lease agreement between the state and BTC expires by year end.

Taking strong objection to the delay in shifting of the race course, situated on 430 acres of land in the heart of the city, Yeddyurappa said, “They (BTC) did not do it despite the government granting them land way back in 1968 at Jakkur”. A decision on re-locating of the race course should have been taken when the government shifted the central jail from the city to Parappana Agrahara on the outskirts, he said. The government today directed the revenue department to identify land for shifting of race course, he said adding that already an 100 acre plot has been spotted at Doddajala near Yelahanka.
