The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of employees of the government and government organisations in Telangana todayserved a strike notice that it would launch an agitation from August 1, culminating into a general strike, if the Centre did not announce separate statehood.

It may be recalled that a two-week non-cooperation campaign staged by JAC early this year had completely paralysed the government, to the extent that the government even failed to pay salaries to its employees on the first day of the month.

About 300,000 government employees, including teachers, represented by over 80 unions took part in the non-cooperation call.

Elected representatives and most ministers from Telangana have already submitted their resignations to press for their demand.

Several ministers and elected representatives of the Congress also completed a two-day fast in the city on Thursday even as members of all the political parties staged ‘rail roko’ across the region.

Senior government officials said the situation would go completely out of control if the employees were allowed to go ahead with the strike call.
