Govt expects call drop issue to be resolved by Oct-end

The government expects the call drops issue to be resolved by end of October.

Minister for Communications and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad said the situation has improved in the last few months. "We have been taking proactive steps to improve the call drop situation and we expect the issue to be resolved by end of next month," he said.

He also said that compensation for call drops will be considered after recommendations of telecom regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

Compensation for consumers is not a bad idea, the minister said.

As per available data from April to first week of September,  the total number of bad cells was around 34,460.
 

About 16,962 cells have been improved while 17,498 are yet to be improved. The total number of cells that were under watch stood at 18,25,259.
