Govt looks at FDI in Indian airlines

The government was looking into the proposal of allowing foreign airlines invest in domestic carriers, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel informed the Lok Sabha today.

As of now, no foreign airline is allowed to own stake in any of the domestic scheduled carriers. Patel’s ministry had, in the past, been arguing that allowing larger foreign airlines to own stakes in fledgling Indian carriers could cause harm to the aviation sector in the country.
