After initial failures to ensure land to micro, small and micro enterprises, the state government has mooted private industrial areas where large industries have surplus but non-utilised land. A few large industries have demanded declaration of their industries private industrial area so as to attract investment from micro, small and medium industries.
“We have requested the government to declare our company premise private industrial area,” a source in a big textile unit told BS. “If it is declared, we will be able to attract investment from MSMEs.”
The company has approximately 600 acres of land, though a large portion of it was privately acquired. If the government declares it a private industrial area, not only MSMEs will set up shops; the company will also get raw material and processing in the vicinity besides certain benefits defined in industrial policy.
“The government has plans to alter the existing industrial policy 2010,” an official said. “The creation of private industrial area will require state assembly nod. Once the policy is changed, it will have certain benefits to the industries. But it will take some three to four months.”
A big textile unit outsources various materials from MSME sector, in a similar fashion pharma and auto industries work. If big companies are surrounded by MSMEs they will be able to reduce the cost. The state has land shortage in all its own industrial areas and existing units are under tight squeeze to expand their operations. Primarily the state industries department may declare certain large industrial land holders in textile, pharma and auto industries where possibilities of investment from MSME segment are brighter.
“Much will depend upon the availability of land and cooperation from private sector,” the government official added.
