Govt mops up Rs 6,708cr license fee from tele firms

Telecom licence fee collection stood at a whopping Rs 6,708.49 crore against the revised estimate of Rs 5,412 crore in 2004-05 from the service providers.

"The boom in the telecom sector also reflected in the collection of spectrum charges with the accrual of Rs 1,042 crore, while the revised estimate was Rs 742 crore in the period in consideration," DoT officials sources said.

Of the Rs 6,708.49 crore licence fee, about Rs 950 crore pertained to the payment of previous years.
