Govt Moving Towards Single Telecom Licence

Communications Minister Arun Shourie today said the government was moving towards a single-licence regime in the telecom sector. The minister said the policy would allow operators to provide services to consumers using any technology.

Shourie told the Rajya Sabha that while work on the new policy had begun it would take time before it was actually implemented.

The minister also assured the House assured that all hardware and software relating to India's security would be developed within the country.

It said investigations had revealed that an Internet provider had indirect links with the Chinese intelligence. "We must develop our own capabilities in hardware and software to prevent disruptions in major areas,
