Govt mulls foreign educational inst norms

The government is considering proposals to regulate entry and operation of foreign higher education institutions in the country, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
 
"A proposal for the regulation of entry and operation, maintenance of quality and prevention of commercialisation of education by foreign educational institutions in higher education is currently under the consideration of the government," Minister of State for
 
Human Resource Development D Purandeswari said in a reply.
 
Subject to finalisation of a policy in this regard, he added, an appropriate legislation would be introduced in Parliament at the earliest.
 
In a separate reply, the minister said 70 foreign education providers have requested permission to impart technical education in collaboration with Indian education providers.
