The government today cleared the facsimile edition of foreign newspapers in India.

S Jaipal Reddy, Information and Broadcasting Minister, said that the government had also allowed foreign institutional investors (FIIs), overseas corporate bodies and non-resident Indians to invest in the print and electronic media, though the 26% FDI ceiling would remain.

However, Reddy said Indian editions of foreign papers would not be permitted.
