The government is also open to bids from the existing private players who operate other power plants in various parts of the state. The existing private companies in the power sector include Essar Group and Torrent Power Generation Company Ltd.

All the projects, except the one to be developed in Utran, are located strategically within close proximity to the LNG terminals being developed by Shell Hazira and Petronet LNG Ltd in Hazira and Dahej, respectively.

The state government has already secured necessary clearances from the concerned departments and the private companies which will be interested in the projects will only need to take a sanction from the ministry of environment and forests of the central government.

In the proposed power project in Ghogha, located near Padva in Bhavnagar district, clearance from the ministry has also been obtained by the state government and 115 hectares of private land acquired. The state has earmarked 85 hectares of government land for the project.
