Govt talks to IAEA, and Left 'withdraws' support |
BS Reporter / New Delhi August 22, 2007 |
The Left parties will "automatically withdraw" support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government a day after it formally announces it has initiated negotiations for India-specific safeguards with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). If the CPI(M) "comes to know" independently that the government has taken a draft to IAEA, it will follow the standard practice - drive to the Rashtrapati Bhavan to deliver a letter to the President informing her of the withdrawal of their support to the UPA. The decision was taken formally at the last politburo meet in New Delhi, but the CPI(M) decided to keep it under wraps and wait for the government |
