The Maharashtra government has been asked to implement all measures discussed and approved during the January 6 chief ministers’ conference by the end of this year, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said today.

He was talking to mediapersons after reviewing the security situation in Maharashtra in the wake of the 26/11 terror attack.

“Deadlines have been given for every measure. Timelines have been squeezed and asked to be completed by the end of this year,” asserted Chidambaram.

“We have a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and Naxal activity,” he said.

To meet such challenges, a massive induction programme is underway in the paramilitary forces like the BSF and CRPF. “We are also charting out a plan for coordination among such agencies. Under this programme, the NSG will set up its hub near Mumbai very soon,” said Chidambaram.

“One of the important aspects of internal security is coastal security. A decision to set up a coastal command has been taken and if necessary, a special Act for coastal security will be enacted,” he said while replying to a question.
