Govt to give Rs 300cr for BSUP plan in Raipur

The central government has approved a project to build 27,976 dwelling units for slum dwellers in Raipur, Chattishgarh under the Basic Services to the Urban Poor (BSUP) programme.

While the central government will contribute Rs 312.18 crore, the state government will allot Rs 79.26 crore for the project. An additional central assistance of  Rs 78.05 crore has also been released by the finance ministry.

The programme was launched by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in December 2005 to help urban slum dwellers residing in dilapidated conditions in 63 mission cities. The basic objective of the scheme is to strive for holistic slum development with a healthy and enabling urban environment by providing adequate shelter and basic infrastructure facilities.
