The qualifying bids for three Ultra Mega Power Projects (UMPPs) in Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu would be invited by the end of the current fiscal, a senior government official said today.
"By the end of this fiscal we would issue RFQs (Requests for Qualifications) for the three UMPPs in Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu and Orissa after resolving the issues," Power Finance Corporation (PFC) Chairman and Managing Director Satnam Singh told reporters here.
There are problems associated with land acquisition in all the three states.
PFC is the nodal agency for the 4,000 UMPP each project.
The RFQ for the Akaltara UMPP in Chhattisgarh is most likely to be the first one to go, he said.
The government has so far awarded four UMPPs, three of which have been bagged by Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group company Reliance Power in Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand.
Tata Power is developing one UMPP at Mundra in Gujarat.
