Chief minister, K Rosaiah, has directed the state advocate general to take necessary action immediately for filing a special leave petition in the Supreme Court against the judgement of Andhra Pradesh High Court quashing 4 per cent reservation provided for backward class Muslims in education institutions and state government services.

The high court on Monday quashed the government’s legislation providing reservation for Muslims stating that the quota for minorities was unsustainable and could not be implemented.

The court, however, stated that admissions done since 2007 on the basis of the prevailing quota would remain valid.
