Govt to sell surplus gold, sliver

The government has decided to sell surplus gold and silver lying in its mints.

"There is about five metric tonne of surplus gold and 1,670 metric tonne of silver lying in government mints,"  S S Palanimanickam, minister of state for finance,  said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha today.

He said the bullion market demand would determine the quantity of gold and silver likely to be sold.
