Govt to spend Rs 1 trillion on ports, shipping

As part of its plans to improve infrastructure in the port and shipping sectors, the central government has earmarked about Rs 1 lakh crore till 2011-2012, Shipping Minister T R Baalu said today.

While Rs 60,000 crore would be spent for improving facilties in various ports, Rs 40,000 crore would be spent on the shipping sector, he added.
