The government is planning stringent security and intelligence safeguards for protecting nuclear installations in the country for existing and proposed projects.

There will be a separate protection regime for key nuclear installations and any private or foreign player tying up with an Indian collaborator will be subject to intense intelligence scrutiny.

"The initial concept of the plan has already been approved and now is improved upon by the department of atomic energy," a government official said.

The government also plans to put in place a central infrastructure protection plan for safeguarding all key installations in the country.

"The plan is being formulated for protecting installations including data security installations in the country," the official said. Advance security features like retinal scanning and finger printing are some of the measures.

As far as the information technology security infrastructure is concerned, a computer emergency response team (CERT) has been set up.

"CERT has been set up on the lines of a national IT security mechanism in the United States," the official added.
