Green energy to account for 80,000MW by 2032

The contribution of renewable energy from wind, solar power and biomass would account for 10% of the total installed capacity in the country by 2012.

The government is working on policies to encourage the use of renewable energy to increase energy efficiency and prevent environmental degradation, Vilas Muttemwar, minister of state for new and renewable energy said today.

About 80,000 MW capacity would be in the form of renewables by 2032, , he added.

At present, renewables account for about 7% of total installed capacity of 1,32,000 MW in the country.
