Nearly thirty-five industries being allotted plots in the Uttarakhand district.

A growth centre is coming up in the Kotdwar area of Pauri district of Uttarakhand with nearly 35 industries being allotted plots.

So far, the Sigaddi growth centre had attracted an investment of Rs 115.88 crore, officials said.

For setting up the growth centre, the government has acquired 60 acres from farmers and provided 30 acres from its own kitty.

The total project cost has been estimated at Rs 27 crore. The government is roping in non-polluting units from thrust sectors like electronics, pharmaceuticals, textiles and computers.

In addition to this, Bharat Electronics Ltd, a prestigious central government public sector company, will also be urged to set up its ancillaries in the growth centre.

The entire area of 90 acres is spread over four villages, namely Kishandevpur, Jaidevpur, Lokmanipur and Shrirampur, where nearly 150 families will get jobs and other benefits at the centre.

"This is a completely backward region and we hope to bring it on the path of development very soon," a top industry official said.

As the area has been facing electricity shortage, poor connectivity and other problems, the government is now trying to perk it up.

"We are trying to focus on the Sigaddi growth centre," the official said.

The official said that the government had purchased land worth Rs 5.02 crore. The road connectivity from Kotdwar to Sigaddi is being proposed through a 40-foot-wide road network, which will be constructed by the public works department.

The industries that have been allotted plots include Sunbeam Remedies, Surya Enterprises, Hindustan Handicraft, Cotton Craft, Neoconcept Enterprises, J P International, Global Fashions, Sri Balaji Herbal Products Pvt Ltd, Mansarovar Apparels, ABS Enterprises, Pooja Enterprises and others.
