With a view to equipping industrial estates in the state with modern facilities, Gujarat government has provisioned Rs 178.44 crore for updrading infrastructure in these estates.
"A total Rs 178.44 crore have been provision for the fiscal 2010-11 towards upgradation of infrastructure facilities in the existing industrial estates of the state," Saurabh Patel, minister of state for energy and petrochemicals, Gujarat government, said in a written reply to a question raised by Nanubhai Vanani, an MLA from Surat city-North constituency.
The allocation for the current fiscal is higher than the provision of Rs 152.16 crore made for the purpose in 2009-10.
It may be mentioned here that the state government has implemented critical infrastructure scheme to upgrade industrial infrastructure of the existing estates and industrial areas as well as industrial clusters.
The scheme includes upgradation of facilities such as roads, rail, bridges connecting industrial estate to ports/airports, product development center, training and testing center and research and development unit etc.
So far, the government has approved projects to the tune of Rs 1098.08 crore from 159 industrial estate under the scheme, where the state will offer financial assistance of Rs 502.32 crore.
