The state government has invited the agitating recurring deposit agents of the Suryapur Co-operative Bank for talks. |
Following this, the agents ended their fast-unto-death agitation on Friday. The agents had staged dharnas demanding their money back and distributed pamphlets urging people to vote against the ruling BJP. |
Realising that the agitation could hurt the BJP in the coming Lok Sabha elections, joint registrar (co-operative societies) A S Khandar was sent to Surat by the government to hold talks with the agents. |
Khandar, accompanied by Suryapur Bank administrator R R Waghasia, met the agents on Friday. He said the state government wanted to resolve the issue at the earliest. |
He assured the agents that they would be heard and all efforts will be made to find a solution. |
Dilip Shah, convenor of the Suryapur Bank Agent Dainik Bachat Hitvardhak Samiti, said, "We have ended the fast-unto-death agitation. But we have decided to continue other forms of protest till we are repaid. We have been invited for talks and we will go to Gandhinagar on April 26." |
Shah said, "We have decided to file a public interest litigation in the Gujarat High Court on April 21 or 22." |
