Gujarat is set to launch a year-long programmes from May 1 to celebrate the golden jubilee of its formation.
Narendra Modi, chief minister of the state, said today that the government has organised a number of programmes and events in order to involve the people of the state in the mass celebrations of the golden jubilee year of Gujarat.
Starting May 1, family members of those who laid down their lives during the Maha Gujarat movement will be felicitated at Sabarmati Ashram. This is to be followed up by a function at Sardar Patel Stadium here in the evening where around 4,000 artists will perform. It would be attended by governor Kamla Beniwal, in the presence of BJP leader and Gandhinagar MP L K Advani and Arun Jaitley.
The foundation stone of the proposed Rs 100 crore Mahatma Mandir at Gandhinagar would also be laid on May 1. ''Soil and water from all villages of the states, besides from all those places where Gujaratis are currently staying across the world would be put in use in the construction of the Mandir,'' Modi said.
He added that "Various programmes would be organised throughout the golden jubilee year in an effort to associate Gujaratis across the world with the west Indian state". On April 30, a mega convention for non-resident Gujarati and Indians (NRG & NRIs) has been organised. Modi will hand over a golden pot to each delegation that would come from other states and abroad. Apart from Gujarat, celebration programmes and events will be held at around 100 places in India and abroad. The CM also asked the people to donate 100 hours of work for the various social causes during the golden jubilee year and participate in the programmes at block and village levels.
Roads, public buildings and important spots across the state will be decorated with glow-cast illuminations.
