In a bid to second the e-Gram project, the Gujarat government is set to digitise land documents of 17,000 villages of the state.
The project, called Victory Father-6 (VF-6), denotes Form 6 (Hak Patrak) and aims to digitise details of the land documents across all the districts in the state.
Ahmedabad-based Jayatma Informatics, an IT company, has been assigned the project to scan and document the land records for the state government.
"Digitisation of the documents will help make the land records easily available to the public besides creating duplicate records that will not require carrying the physical documents everywhere. Also, digitisation will help preserve the contents of the documents better," said Nirav Shah, director of Jayatma Informatics and president of Gujarat Electronics and Software Industries Association (GESIA).
As part of the initiative, the government may have plans to make the land records of these villages available at a nominal cost at civic centres across the state.
The documented information on land records can be made available to the public by assigning a unique id number at the payment of a nominal fee. On entering the number, a person can have access to the required data about the land.

The project, to be implemented across all the districts of the state, involves an investment of Rs 75 lakhs, with the use of 31 scanners, 183 computers and a manpower of 183.
According to sources, certain documents, such as the land records have been maintained in their original physical form across villages in the state. The data is shared only among the heads of the villages, which makes it difficult for the villagers to have access to the information.
The state government’s move in digitising the data will help remove this bias and make information available to all.
The e-Gram project aims to provide a unique satellite-based broadband Internet facility to all the 13,693 village panchayats across Gujarat.
VF-6, combined with the e-Gram project would help improve the effeciency of the services of the government to the rural citizens of the state.
