Gujarat invites Sistema to set up chip facility

Having barely begun his visit to Russia, Narendra Modi, chief minister of Gujarat, has invited Russian telecommunication company, Sistema, to set up a SIM card chip manufacturing facility in the state.

Expressing his intentions of developing the telecommunication sector in Gujarat, Modi has asked Sistema to consider setting up an IT chip and SIM card manufacturing facility in the state, a government release stated.

According to the government release, on the second day of his visit to Russia, Modi visited Sistema's industrial complex. The Gujarat chief minister also enquired about possibilities of technology transfer of Sistema's disaster management equipment and coast guard marine telecommunication.

 

Speaking at the 'International Energy Week Conference' at Moscow, Modi also expressed his desire to make Gujarat a prominent player in oil and gas economy, the release further stated.

Sistema Telecom manages the companies in the Telecommunications business, including MTS, Comstar, MGTS, Sky Link, Sistema Shyam TeleServices Ltd. Telecommunication group is the biggest one in Russia. It provides service for more than 80 million customers. The group consists of 50 companies working practically in all sectors of telecommunication market.
