Gujarat mulls Dolomite Policy

"We are planning to come out with a separate policy on dolomite," said Saurabh Patel, minister of state for industries and mines, at the annual general meeting of Gujarat Mineral Industries Association.

Several applications for mine leasing have been pending for past 10 years. Many of the pending issues of the sector would be solved very soon," he said.

 

The minister said the department will take more stringent actions against illegal mining activities on seashore mineral belt.

In the last fortnight around Rs 2.5 crore have been recovered as a penalty for illegal mining, he said. The minister also informed that with an aim to expedite the process of solving issues of the sector 10-member team will be formed and the association would implement this suggestion. Patel also suggested that the industry should go for more value addition.

Biren Patel, President, Gujarat Minerals Industries Association suggested that a special mineral zone should be set up and a relief should be given royalty recovered for three months in case of important minerals.

Apart from that more lease should be granted for dolomite and bentonite, he added.
