Gujarat plans 'Made in Gujarat' SME brands: Modi

In a bid to attract small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from across the country for the upcoming fifth edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit (VGGIS) in January 2011, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that the state will come up with special package for the sector.

According to a state government communique, Modi said Gujarat now proposes to evolved a special package for the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) sector with zero defect manufacturing and best packaging by common ‘Made in Gujarat’ brand, with stress on skilled manpower development and skill up-gradation network. Not to neglect physical infrastructure, he said, emphasis is also laid on urban planning with provision for clean and green living.

 

Modi, who is on visits to various states as part of roadshows for the upcoming event, invited industrialists and investors from Karnataka at Bangalore on Thursday to take part in VGGIS. He had held similar meeting at Mumbai and Chennai earlier. The industrialists too, impressed by the fast track Gujarat model of development, evinced keen interest to participate in the mega event. Modi also said that delegates from nearly 80 countries are expected to take part in VGGIS this time, as against 47 countries during the last summit. Meanwhile, talking about the Gujarat model, Modi said that it is about public delivery system to grievances redressal system through public-private partnership. "Gujarat initiative as global investment promotion event started in 2003 has over the years emerged as a truly global business promotion and knowledge networking platform. A stable government, proactive governance, pragmatic policies and friendly environment, added to it zero level man-days loss with no labour problem and power cuts have also their contribution," he added.
