The state government is mulling to abolish the five per cent entry tax on polyester texturised yarn (PTY) of coarser count of over 300 denier and super specialty stretch yarn made from Lycra and Spandex, which is mainly sourced by denim fabric manufacturers.
"We had introduced the entry tax to discourage outsiders from selling this particular variety of PTY in Gujarat and protect the PTY industry in Gujarat but we will now abolish the tax. However, we are waiting for some representation from the denim industry on this," said Saurabh Patel, minister of state for industries, at Business Standard's
