Gujarat to draw Rs 10K crore in shipyard projects

Tebma, Dolphin, Afcons, Bharati, Assam aim to drop anchor on Gujarat shores.

With Indian companies planning to drop anchors on Gujarat’s shores, the state is likely to harbor investments to the tune of Rs 10,000 crore in shipyards. Among the players who have shown interest in developing shipyards in the state include Dolphin Offshore Enterprises (India), Tebma Shipyarads, Assam Company, Afcons Infrastructure, Bharati Shipyard, Jindal Shipyard and Pipavav Shipyard, said government sources close to the development.

Chennai-based Tebma is planning to invest Rs 1,000 crore for developing a shipyard project at Dahej SEZ region, while Dolphin Offshore, which has expertise in providing underwater services to the offshore oil and gas industry in India and overseas, is planning to pump in Rs 450 crore for a shipyard project in Jaffrabad.

 

About 10 projects have been shortlisted for investment in shipyard projects and the Indian companies are expected to sign MoUs at the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit to be held on January 11-12, according to sources. The state government is planning a shipyard clusters in lines of Korea, Japan and China, sources added.

Assam Company, a diversified group with interest ranging from tea to oil and gas is aiming to foray into shipbuilding and ship-repair by setting up a shipyard project at Dahej for an estimated investment of Rs 750 crore. The company had signed a MoU in previous Vibrant Gujarat for setting up Rs 2,000 crore hydrocarbon SEZ at Kutch. Shri Mataji Ashapura Ports in consortium with IL&FS and Allcargo Global Logistics Ltd is expected to sign MoU of Rs 2,000 crore for shipyard project at Nana Laija. Besides, Shapoorji Pallonji group which has already confirmed Rs 1,000 crore investment for developing a greenfield port at Simar is aiming to set up Rs 600 crore shipyard at Mahuva through Afcons Infrastructure wherein the group holds controlling equity of around 51%.

Bharati Shipyard has earmarked Rs 620 crore for a shipyard project near Nava Ratanpar/Saratanpar in Gujarat, sources said. Dahej which has been declared as Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIF) will see four shipyard projects in all with Jindal Shipyard and Dahej Shipyard also aiming to park their projects in the region.
