Apart from this, the company has also plans to purchase 300 mw peak and off peak power for October-December period this year.

The total installed capacity for power generation in Gujarat is around 9600 mw, while power demand in peak hours comes upto 12,000 mw and in case of off-peak hours it is nearly 10,000 to 10,500 mw.

Gujarat already has a power deficit of 2,000 mw. Recently, GUVNL has completely shutdown its 264 mw power plant.

As a result, the demand-supply gap has widened. Also Gujarat being one of the major agriculture producers in the country, the state requires more power during monsoon.

Taking all these factors into consideration GUVNL has invited the offers to purchase power from traders.

It may be mentioned here that GUVNL is also in the process of purchasing 2000 mw of power from private players through competitive bidding.

In August-2007 the company had invited bids from the players and it has recently finalised 19 companies as qualified bidders.
