Government of Gujarat has unveiled a package to rehabilitate riot affected industrial units, hotels, restaurants, commercial establishments, etc.

Under the rehabilitation scheme, the government has announced a four per cent interest subsidy on the loan to be taken by the affected parties from banks and other financial institutions.

The said interest subsidy would be available every year for the next three years, subject to an upper limit of Rs 1 lakh per year.

Gujarat industries minister Suresh Mehta said that the loan amount on which the subsidy is to be given should not be more than double the actual damage a unit has suffered during the riots. The assessment of damage would be made by the state industries department.

The affected units have also been allowed to pay sales tax in 36 monthly instalments without any penal interest.

However, the sales tax payment would have to be made on the difference calculated on the basis of the actual damage a unit has suffered and the insurance money it would receive.

The package also provides for the riot-hit units to pay their electricity duty a year later. During the second year, the duty would be charged in 12 equal instalments without any interest.

The Industries Commissione-rate, Gandhinagar on Tuesday said in a press release that the affected units, which are desirous of availing the prescribed benefits should apply in the prescribed format with a copy of the FIR to the concerned District Industries Centres latest by April 1, 2002.

It also clarified that the benefits of this scheme is available only to those who are not taking advantage of the ex-gratia subsidy for small earning units, as announced by the State Revenue Department.
