Prime Minister I K Gujrals latest crusade against corruption might be seen as directed against Laloo Prasad or Sharad Yadav, his associates maintain that the Prime Minister is set to harp on the fall in moral values in public life in all the functions he attends to mark the 50th Anniversary of Indian Independence.

Gujral reflected this mood at the very first function he attended to mark the year-long celebrations.

At a meeting in Pune on August 1, the death anniversary of Balgadhar Tilak, Gujral recalled the days when the Gandhi cap was seen as a mark of respect, of dedication.

It was not just a head dress. It was a symbol of sacrifice. Then talking of the fall in moral values over the years, he said I curse the days which have brought the country to a point when people like me stopped wearing the Gandhi cap.
