As the Congress-led UPA marched towards an impressive victory, prominent Indians in the Gulf today gave a thumbs up to the alliance, with some calling it the triumph of youth which was made possible by leaders like Rahul Gandhi.

"The voters in the latest elections, impressed by youthful entry of candidates like Rahul Gandhi, have tried to give clear mandate to Congress to operate on its own, at least without Left," Ram Buxani, a leading businessman and community leader, told PTI.

K V Shamsudheen, Chairman of Pravasi Bandhu Welfare Trust, said the mandate given by the Indian electorates to UPA indicates their trust on a Congress-led UPA government.

"The electorates emphasised once again with this result that only UPA can lead the country as an economic super power while also strictly sticking to its secular fabric.

"The new government must utilise a part of remittance from 25 million non-resident Indians for the national infrastructure development," he said. He also said the new government must develop friendly relations with neighbouring countries.

With Saturday being an off day for most of office-goers in the Gulf region, they remained glued to TV sets to catch the latest election trends and results.
