And its not only the private players but even government bodies that are jumping in the recreational sector. One such centre has come up in the heart of the city, located in the historic Judges field and Nehru Park area.
The Judges field and the park would be blended into a combined recreational ground in layered urban landscaping style, making it a hub of recreational and sporting activities, state minister Himanta Biswa Sarma says.
"From meditation, sporting activities, food court, the new ground will have it all," he said. A team of architects is already working on the project.
Besides a huge multi-cuisine food court, many shopping malls are also coming up in the city. The director of one such mall, Manash Kumar Sharma says "the response has been overwhelming to the extent that we are finding it difficult to handle the crowd during peak hours".

Done with the hurly burly of shopping, one can rest in the new breed of resorts, replete with health spas, in and around the city where people throng especially during weekends.
Talking about the changing face of the capital city, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi says "this is a sign of improved law and order situation. This shows people are no longer scared to venture out late night which probably will help the state to shun the tag of being unsafe".
"I personally know of many popular eating joints but my schedule does not allow me to drop in," he said.
