Hamdulla avenges father's defeat

It was a sweet revenge for debutant Congress candidate Hamdulla Sayeed son of former union minister P M Sayeed, who wrested the lone parliamentary constituency of Lakshadweep from NCP's Dr Pookunji Koya by a margin of 2198 votes.   

While Hamdulla polled 20,492 votes, Dr Koya got 18,294 votes.    

'People of the Union Territory have reposed confidence in me'. The victory is the 'strong resentment' against the anti secular forces and those who opposed the development, peace and progress of the Union Territory, Hamdulla told PTI.     

Dr Koya, who had defeated P M Sayeed by a margin of 71 votes in 2004. Hamdulla said the people have reposed faith in his late father who represented the Union Territory from 1967-2004.      

 

The BJP and CPI(m) had also fielded candidates this time.The total electorate in the constituency is 44377 -- 21818 women and 22559 men.
