Haneef arrest: India summons Australian high commissioner

Days after Mohammad Haneef's detention in Australia in the failed UK car bombings case, the external affairs ministry summoned Australian High Commissioner John McCarthy to convey India's concern and emphasise that the doctor from Bangalore be treated in a fair manner.

Biren Nanda, joint secretary (south), told McCarthy that India was concerned over the way Haneef was being treated. Nanda expressed India's concern over the circumstances in which Haneef was arrested, sources said.
