Haryana opens up hydel sector

To make Haryana surplus in power, the state government has adopted a two-pronged strategy on energy conservation and non-conventional energy sources.
 
It has invited proposals from private investors for setting up small hydroelectricity projects on six sites on the canals of the state on the "build, own and operate".
 
The government was encouraging private investment for setting up projects based on non-conventional energy sources and had initiated programmes for conserving energy in the government buildings, commercial and domestic establishments, an official spokesman said here.
 
He said apart from fairs, energy camps and talks on conservation, an integrated rural energy programme was also being implemented in the state.
 
Under this programme, various renewable energy and energy efficient systems like solar cookers, solar lanterns, solar water heating systems were being promoted.
 
He said proposals from private investors for setting up small hydro-power projects on six sites on the canals of the state on build, own and operate basis have been invited.
 
He said the department of non-conventional energy sources has been designated as the nodal department to enforce the provisions under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001.
