The Haryana government is considering a proposal to provide funds directly to panchayats for undertaking developmental works.

This was stated by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda after an interaction with members of zila parishad, panchayat samitis and village heads of Yamunanagar district where he launched his personal contact programme.

Hooda said he has asked village heads to constitute a construction committee in each village to keep an eye on quality of construction material for developmental works.

"This committee would comprise at least five members of each village and they should have no interest in contesting elections," he said, adding developmental works would be supervised by government functionaries.

To a question, he said the programme has been launched to provide an opportunity to village heads and members of panchayat samitis and zila parishads to interact with him directly. It also aims to educate them about developmental works in their villages.
