The Haryana government is mulling the option of engaging private players to set up amusement parks, through the public-private-partnership route in the state.
This is the maiden attempt by the state tourism department to create joint ventures with private stakeholders.
A senior official in the Haryana Tourism Development Corporation said, taking cognisance of the growth of the amusement and entertainment industry in the country over the past few years, the government had decided to put up state-of-the-art amusement parks.
“The synergy with private players for such projects would provide the best technology available across the globe,” the official said. He also added that the Periyar Lake in Rohtak and Surajkund in Faridabad had been selected for these projects.
An area of 25 acres at Periyar and another 12 at Surajkund was available at the existing tourism complexes. These two projects would mobilise an investment of about Rs 100 crore.
The department also has plans to set up camping and adventure sports sites at Dharuhera, Hodal and Damdama (in the national capital region), in collaboration with the private partners.
He said the tenders would be rolled out by the end of January.
“The corpotation has 40 complexes under its fold and most of these are 20-25 years old. Hence, renovation work at all the complexes is going on in a staggered way,” he added.
Matching steps with the private sector, the state tourism development corporation is also adding banqueting and conferencing facilities.
