The Union Power Ministry has so far approved setting up three mega projects of 4,000 Mw each and the project to be set up at Sasan by Reliance Power will supply 400 Mw to Haryana.
Union Power Secretary Anil Razdan said this while speaking at the inaugural function of the two-day Power Sector Conclave of Northern Region States, in Chandigarh on Tuesday.
He said that from this project Haryana would receive electricity at an economical rate of Rs 1.1916 per unit for 25 years. Although these mega projects were for the 12th plan, two 660-Mw units would start functioning during the 11th plan.
Razdan described Haryana’s efforts in energy conservation as unparalleled and hoped that Haryana would exhibit similar achievement in generation and transmission of power.
“Under the New Hydro Power Policy, states which would provide land for setting up of hydro power projects, would be given 11 per cent electricity free of cost instead of 10 per cent. The one per cent additional electricity would be supplied to area affected by the project. Apart from this, the consumers in the project affected area would be supplied 100 units of power per family per month free of cost. Two per cent of the revenue yielded by the project would be given for the welfare of the people of the area,” He said.
Razdan said that the Central government has implemented an accelerated power development and reforms programme and Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana at the cost of Rs 80,000 crore. The Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana aimed at total electrification of villages in the country and provide electricity connections free of cost to poor families in rural areas.

He said that the accelerated power development and reforms programme has been reoriented during the 11th Plan and Rs 51,577 crore have been earmarked for the same.
Haryana Chief Secretary, Dharam Vir said that Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Programme has been successfully implemented in Haryana and under this scheme 2.20 lakh BPL families were being provided electricity connections free of cost.
He said that this programme would prove as a milestone for the State. He stressed the need for computerisation of power distribution system.
Dharam Vir described energy as a pivot for the economic development of the state and country.
He said that the present state government has made significant progress in the area of generation of power during last couple of years. Power Generation projects were being set up at Hisar and Jhajjar and recently power purchase agreements have been signed with various companies to procure 3,044 Mw of power.
He said Haryana was the first State in the country to implement power reforms. The technical and commercial losses, which were 40 per cent in 2005 have reduced to 29 per cent. He said that efforts were being made to further decrease it to 16 per cent.
