The Haryana government today decided to set up a farmers’ commission within three months to safeguard the interests of the farming community and also to enhance the financial incentive admissible under Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Vivah Shagun Yojana from Rs 15,000 to Rs 31,000 with effect from November 19, which happens to be the birthday of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The body will review the status of agriculture and assess the condition of different categories of farmers in various regions and identify factors responsible for imbalances and disparities. It will also suggest measures for achieving sustainable and equitable agricultural development. The commission will recommend appropriate policies and programmes for enhancing the productivity and output of agriculture and allied sectors, including that of High Value Agriculture.
